Inter-State drugs smuggling racket busted, 3 nabbed with poppy straw

JAMMU, Apr 27: Gangyal police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ busted inter-State drugs smuggling racket by arresting three persons along with 35 kilograms of poppy straw.
As per police sources, based on reliable information, a team from Gangyal police station laid a naka near Kunjwani and signaled a Tavera car bearing registration number JK01U-0372 to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and escaped from the spot. Stinking something fishy, the cops chased and intercepted the vehicle near some distance from naka point.
During checking, police recovered 35 kilograms of poppy straw from the possession of three persons travelling in the car and arrested them.
The accused have been identified as Ubaid Hafiz Dar, son of Hafiz Ullah Dar of Budgam, Major Singh, son of Balbir Singh and Malkit Singh, son of Makhan Singh, both residents of Jallandhar, Punjab.
The accused were trying to smuggle the consignment to Punjab from Jammu, but police foiled their bid and arrested them.
A case under FIR Number 34/17 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused at Gangyal police station and investigation started.
Police team led by SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and assisted by SHO Gangyal SI Nayat Ali made the arrest under the supervision of SP South Sandeep Choudhary.
