JAMMU, June 2: Janipur police has busted inter-district gang of burglars with the arrest of four thieves including a final year student of Commerce College and recovery of stolen items worth lakhs.
This was stated by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Atul Goel during a press conference at Janipur police station here this evening.
The SSP stated that due to rise in the theft cases in various areas of the winter capital, a police team was constituted which was headed by SHO police station Janipur SI Hilal Azhar and assisted by PSI Rahul Mahajan, Head Constable Altaf Hussain and Selection Grade Constable (SgCT) Sadiq Mohammad.
Mr Goel informed that during the course of investigation, the team arrested four burglars, who have been identified as Asif Iqbal Bhat, son of Mohammad Iqbal Bhat and Salman Latief Bhat, son of Abdul Latief Bhat, both residents of Hadyal, Kishtwar, Sameer Ahmed Shah, son of Mohammad Rajab Shah of village Mangthalla Filler, Kishtwar and Arif Ali Malik, son of Ghulam Ali Malik of Bunasthan, Kishtwar. He stated that Salman Latief Bhat happens to be a final year student of Commerce College and had stolen LCD from the hostel of college along with his associates.
On their disclosure, police recovered 3 LCD, 8 LED, intex speakers and woofers, one microwave oven, one beetal headphone, one induction cooker, four laptop, one mobile headset, 20 pen-drives, 10 memory cards, invertors, HP TFT Monitors, battery and one AC. Motorcycles used in committing the crime were also recovered.
“With the recovery of stolen items, theft cases registered with Janipur police station, police post Canal Road, police post Rehari, police post Sarwal and police post Talab Tillo were solved”, Mr Goel added.
The accused confessed to have committed the burglary under the jurisdiction of aforesaid police stations and posts, with similar burglaries in district Kishtwar, SSP said.
He informed that the modus operandi of the gang was to barge into electronic shops during night and dump the goods in a room at Commerce College. The accused ferry the stolen goods between Jammu and Kishtwar by using buses, he added.
Further investigations are on to ascertain their involvement in other cases, SSP maintained.
The owners of the stolen items and people have appreciated the police efforts for recovering the valuable items, stolen by the thieves.
