Intensified Mission Indradhanush to start from Oct 07

JAMMU, OCTOBER 06: Government has identified Jammu district in the state to be covered under ‘Intensified Mission Indradhanush’ drive with an aim to achieve 90 percent full immunization in the areas with higher proportion of unvaccinated or partially vaccinated children.

This came to light at a press conference on the special mobilization programme under Mission Indradhanush.

At the press conference, Director Family Welfare MCH & Immunization, Dr. Samir Mattoo said that the ‘Intensified drive of Mission Indradhanush’  will start from October 7, 2017 and will be carried out for seven working days every month for four consecutive months from 10 am to 4 pm.

The mission aims to vaccinate kids free of cost against seven deadly yet preventable diseases namely diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles, hepatitis B and also for Heomophaileus Influenza.

The ultimate goal of Mission Indradhanush is to ensure full immunization with all fresh vaccines for children up to two years of age and pregnant women. It will also target drop out children upto 5 years of age.

The mission will focus on the high risk areas with low coverage due to geographic, demographic and other operational challenges including urban slums, brick kilns, construction sites, forest, tribal and other areas with low routine immunisation coverage,” Mattoo said adding that WHO and other agencies are supporting the state in social mobilisation, communication and strengthening the cold chain for vaccines.

He appealed media fraternity and other stakeholders to play an important role in mobilising families for routine immunisation and creating an enabling environment to achieve the target. State Immunization Officer/ Assistant Director, Dr. Yangchan Dolma, Chief Medical Officer Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Sanjay Turki, SMO WHO Jammu, Dr. Ravinder Pal Singh and other senior officers were also present on the occasion.
