INTACH launches ‘Adopt the Tree’ campaign at village Jakh

JAMMU, July 14: INTACH Jammu and WWF-India jointly with the support of Floriculture Department today celebrated 66th Vana Mahotsava at Gandhi Sewa Sadan, Jakh, by launching ‘Adopt the Tree’ campaign.
Director Floriculture, KK Sharma, who was the chief guest on the occasion, delivered a lecture on the importance of Herbal trees.
Hemant Sharma, Director, Command Area Jammu, threw light on the importance of campaign ‘Adopt the Tree’. He said that we should plant more and more trees and protect them.
Convener, INTACH Jammu, SM Sahni, while speaking said that our local trees are part of our natural heritage and we grow our indigenous trees as part of our culture and heritage.
Dr CM Seth, chairperson WWF-India, said that ‘Adopt the Tree’ campaign was launched by WWF-India as a people’s movement for tree plantation in the year 1985 and is celebrated as part of Vana Mahotsava every year.
On this occasion trees of Sita Ashok, Chinese rain tree, Gandela, Putranjeeva, Moulseri, Harad, Lasooda, Suanjana and Behra were planted.
On this auspicious occasion Gandhi Sewa Sadan also launched one month tailoring and cutting course for 25 ladies of village Jakh under Krishna Mehta Skill development initiative.
Others who attended the event were Ashok Gupta, Deputy Director, Floriculture, Resham Kashyap, Chandra Gupta, Sandeep Singh, secretary, Gandhi Sewa Sadan and the villagers of village Jakh.
