Insurance employees, PDP protest against price hike, FDI

JAMMU, Sept 19: The insurance employees all over the State under the banner of Northern Zone Insurance Employees Association (NZIEA) held protest demonstrations against the Central Government move to bring 51 percent FDI in retail sector in multi-brand, 100 percent FDI in retail sector in single brand, 49 percent in civil aviation and also against hiking diesel prices and decreasing subsidy on cooking gas.
The demonstrations at Srinagar were led by Comrade A M Tantray, president Northern Zone Insurance Employees Association, J&K and at Jammu it was led by Dileep Koul, president of GIEU and Com Pawan Gupta division secretary of NZIEA, J&K.
Addressing the demonstrators at Rail Head Complex outside the LIC Divisional Office Cell here, Comrade Pawan Gupta lambasted the anti people and anti worker policies of the UPA Government and strongly condemned the FDI in retail sector.
He refuted the claims of GOI that FDI in retail sector will bring employment in India and also lead to infrastructure development and said in reality this is not true. In real sense there will neither be infrastructure development nor employment generation.
The Wall Mart Company of USA that is very much willing to do business in India, at present has annual turnover of nearly 400 billion dollars and it has total number of 21 lakh employees and total retail market of India has the same turnover of nearly 400 billion dollar but it has given employment to nearly 22 crore people, he said.
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) held a protest demonstration against UPA Government for hike in diesel prices, capping LPG cylinders and also for taking decision to allow FDI in retail.
Amid slogans, PDP activists assembled at Kachi Chawni and burnt the effigy of the UPA Government. They were demanding complete rollback of the hike in diesel prices, subsidizing LPG cylinders and ban on FDI in retail market.
Addressing the gathering, PDP leader, Vikram Singh said that the price rise and corruption due to wrong economic policies of the Central Government has made life of the common people miserable.
Girish Sharma said that FDI in retail sector would ruin the small traders and shopkeepers.
