JAMMU, Sept 15: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu local centre today celebrated 53rd Engineers’ Day today at its Institutional Complex, Channi Himmat, Jammu through virtual meet.
It was attended by a large number of engineers from various departments. The day is celebrated all over the country on 15th September to commemorate the birth anniversary of the greatest engineer of India “Bharat Ratna, Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya”.
The proceedings started with garlanding of the bust of M Visvesvaraya by the Chairman of the Centre, Dr Sanjay Khar, FIE. In his welcome address, he elaborated on the activities undertaken by Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu local centre and informed the fellow engineers about the web meeting facility created at the Centre.
Rich Tributes were paid to Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya by Dr Bhawna Sharma (FIE). She highlighted the lifelong achievements, sterling qualities, austerity, integrity, competence and discipline of the greatest icon of engineering profession.
Anik Gupta, FIE; Member Editorial Board, IEI Jammu Centre gave an online presentation on the theme of the day “Engineers for a Self- Reliant India”. C P Sharma, MIE; honorary secretary, conducted the proceedings while B B Sharma, FIE; former chairman, IEI Jammu local centre presented the vote of thanks.
Meanwhile, a function was also held on the occasion of 53rd Engineers Day at The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu & Kashmir State Centre, Church Lane, Sonwarbagh Srinagar. The function started with the hoisting of the official flag of IEI and garlanding the portrait of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya by Aamir Ali, Chairman, J&K State Centre.
A central webinar was organized by IEI Headquarters from Uttarakhand State Centre and was relayed throughout the country. The Central function was presided over by Narendra Singh, president, IEI.
The function at J&K State Centre Srinagar was attended by engineers, corporate members, executive committee members and students, maintaining proper SOP’s and physical distancing. Majority of the members joined the proceedings online.
