Srinagar, Dec 7 : A police Inspector, who was injured in an attack at Eidgah in Srinagar on October 29, succumbed today, a day after he was shifted to AIIMS from a Srinagar’s private hospital.

From October 29 and December 7, Inspector Masroor Ahmad Wani was on life support at SKIMS, Soura and later in a private hospital. He was airlifted to AIIMS New Delhi for specialized treatment, but lost his battle with the life, a few hours of his shifting.
Wani was seriously injured as a bullet had stuck in his head. A resident of Eidgah, Narwara, Yechpora Srinagar, the young Inspector was shot while he was playing cricket at the Eidgah playground. He has left behind his wife and a little daughter.
A pall of gloom descended Narwara, Yechpora, Srinagar soon after the news of Wani’s death spread with neighbours and relatives flooding his house.
An official said that the body of the slain would be brought to Srinagar tomorrow at 11 am.
“My child became an orphan even before being born,” said the inconsolable wife of Inspector Masroor Ahmed Wani.
It was a sombre atmosphere in the congested colony of Eidgah in the downtown of this city as a multitude of people gathered at the residence of Wani.
The scene was heart-wrenching at his residence, where mourners went to offer their condolences to his grieving wife and family.
Lamenting the tragic loss, relative Ghulam Nabi Kakazgar said, “Masroor was very frank. He would always help people. We are very depressed. He was crazy about cricket, and cricket took his life away.”
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid tribute to the brave martyr of Jammu Kashmir Police, Inspector Masroor Ahmad.
He said, “No words are strong enough to express the pain of losing Inspector Masroor Ahmad, the brave son of Mother India. I salute his courage and sacrifice. In this difficult moment of grief, I express my condolences to the family of the martyr.”
“I want to assure the people that his supreme sacrifice will not go in vain. We are firmly resolved to crush the terrorist menace and give a befitting reply to those who are aiding and abetting terrorism,” the Lt Governor said.
Director General of Police, R R Swain has also condoled the heroic loss of Inspector Masroor Ahmad who succumbed to injuries at (AIIMS) New Delhi today.
In his message, the DGP has said, “as the Director General of Police, it is with profound sorrow that I extend my heartfelt condolences on the tragic loss of Police Inspector Masroor Ahmad Wani.”
