Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Nov 22: Noted management and media consultant Ashok Ogra has said that the critical challenge facing world leadership – both in politics and business – is to ensure that emerging economies focus on sustainable development and generate inclusive growth to uplift millions living Below Poverty Line.
“That is possible only if we start encouraging a culture of innovation and see those living at the bottom of the pyramid as potential resources rather than a drain on the economy,” he opined while delivering the key note address today at the 2-day national conference on “Preparing Next Generation Leadership: A Futuristic Agenda” organized by the Department of Human Resource & OB, Central University, Jammu.
Maintaining that the purchasing power of those who are at bottom of the pyramid, is close to 13 trillion US$ – seven times the India’s GDP,   Mr Ogra said that the world needs an economic framework, which not only ensures that the limited resources are judiciously used but also equally distributed among the developed and developing countries.
The noted consultant, who is currently Director of Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi,  remarked that if 19th century belonged to Europe and 20th century to US, it is the turn of the Asian countries to reclaim the position they held till the industrial revolution embraced Europe, bypassing Asia.
The conference is being attended by leading academicians and scholars of all parts of India, including Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Prof Alka Sharma, Prof B C Sharma of Jammu University.
Prof Subhash Jagota referred to the need for developing leadership skills to face the challenges of the future.  Prof Furqan Qamar, VC, Central University, Himachal, who was the chief guest, said that we should remain always prepared for unexpected challenges.
