Injured Army jawan succumbs

JAMMU, Dec 26: An Army jawan, who was injured in firing by the militants on the Line of Control (LoC) at Neelum Post in Mankote sector of Poonch district last night, succumbed to his injuries early this morning.
Sepoy Rakesh Kumar of 37 Rashtriya Rifles and a resident of Himachal Pradesh was seriously injured in the firing while manning Neelum Post last night. He was evacuated to Military Hospital in Rajouri, where he succumbed to his injuries early this morning.
Army officers and jawans paid floral tributes to Sepoy Rakesh Kumar before his body was sent to his native town at Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh.
General Officer Commanding (GOC), 16 Corps Nagrota has expressed deep condolences to the family of Sepoy Rakesh Kumar, who is survived by his wife and daughter.
Army’s officiating PRO (Defence), Jammu, S N Acharya said a group of militants tried to infiltrate into Indian side from Mankote sector in Poonch district last night by resorting to firing on Army positions.
Army retaliated and thwarted intrusion bid by the militants, he said.
Mr Acharya said the Army jawan was injured in firing by the militants and succumbed to his injuries this morning in the hospital.
