Infringements of Human Rights

Sir,
Human Rights are a benchmark of developed and civilized society. But rights cannot exist in vacuum.  Right and duties are the two aspects of the same coin. Liberty never means licence. Rights have their existence on the principle of live and let live. Rights  pre-suppose a rule of law where each and every one in the society follows a code of conduct and behaviour for the good of all. But it is unfortunate that we are witnessing gross violations in the sense of duty and tolerance. Even the peaceful atmosphere in our higher education Institutions has been vitiated by bad elements every now and then. This has created wide imbalance between the two viz-a-viz duties and rights. Whenever there is imbalance, there is chaos. We are living in a secular country where we have complete freedom of expression and where every individual is equal before law and is safe and secure. A sense of tolerance, propriety and adjustment is a must for enjoyment of rights and freedom. Liberty cannot survive without its corresponding duties. Freedom is based on mutual respect for each other’s rights. The human rights can best be preserved and  protected in society steeped in morality, discipline and social order. The rights and freedoms of an individual must be adjusted to those of others so that an individual does not become a social nuisance.  Our Institutions are our temples of learning. We have to ensure peaceful atmosphere in our institutions so that our duties and rights co-exist.
Yours etc…
