JAMMU, Nov 5: Army last night foiled a major infiltration attempt by the militants at Sona Wali Gali in Mankote sector of Poonch district while the Rangers violated ceasefire briefly in Ramgarh sector of Samba district this morning.
Reports said a group of seven to eight militants tried to infiltrate into the Indian territory from Sona Wali Gali in Mankote sector at 9.15 pm last night. The militants opened firing on the troops. Few shots were also fired by Pakistan Army to facilitate infiltration by the militants.
However, reports said, the Army personnel lit up the area with para-lites and fired at the direction being used by the militants to infiltrate into this side.
The exchange of firing continued till 11.10 pm after which the militants, who were equipped with heavy weaponry and explosive devices, escaped back taking cover of darkness.
The militants were between seven to eight in numbers and all of them were believed to be Pakistanis, reports said.
Meanwhile, Pakistani Rangers fired two bursts in Ramgarh sector at 11.30 am today. The BSF didn’t retaliate. There were no casualties or damage on the Indian side in the firing.
This was after 12 days that any ceasefire violation was reported from Pakistan side on the International Border.
