NEW DELHI, Oct 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in paying rich tributes to infantry martyrs of the Indian Army on 68th Infantry Day today.
In a message, the Prime Minister saluted the courage of the infantry soldiers. “On Infantry Day, we salute the indomitable courage and bravery of our infantry, who have left no stone unturned in serving our nation.”
Mr Modi said, “We pay rich tributes to our infantry martyrs who dedicated their lives to protect the unity and integrity of our nation.”
As the senior most serving infantryman, Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag laid the wreath at ‘Amar Jawan Jyoti’ at India Gate to honour the martyrs.
Infantry Day is celebrated to mark the first air landing of the infantry troops at Srinagar in 1947 who fought a fierce battle in Kashmir that saved Jammu and Kashmir from falling into the hands of Pakistani mercenaries. Lt Gen Chandra Shekhar (retd) also laid a wreath on behalf of all the veterans of infantry.
