SRINAGAR, May 24: President Jammu and Kashmir Bachao Tehreek and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil today asked both India and Pakistan to stop frequent cross border skirmishes that have taken heavy toll on the lives of common people of the State on both sides of the Line of Control and initiate dialogue process.
Expressing concern over the escalation at the borders, Vakil said these increased incidents of ceasefire violation lead to resultant deaths of common and poor people.
In a statement issued here, Vakil urged the leadership of both India and Pakistan to show statesmanship and tread a path of peace and dialogue.
“War is no solution to any issue, neither these frequent cross border firing incidents. You are only killing common people. Hundreds have been left houseless while thousands others have migrated to safer places.  Only the innocent people of the State are dying,” he remarked.
He asked both the countries if they have achieved anything from this shelling expect killings, destruction of property, closure of educational institutions and displacement of thousands and thousands of border dwellers.  “It is tragic and pained to see that  civilians are dying on both sides for no fault of theirs,” he said.
Vakil said that the both the mainstream and separatist camps have been appealing to India and Pakistan to stop this cross border shelling in which citizens of J&K are killed, but it seems all these pleas are falling on deaf ears.
“Instead of this blame game, the heads of both India and Pakistan must stop the escalation on border. It has created fear and panic among the people,” he added.
Vakil called upon both the countries to stick to the ceasefire agreement  signed between the two armies in 2003. He said ceasefire accord was a biggest gift for the people living on both sides of the Line of Control and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir. However, unfortunately, for the past some years, ceasefire violation on the border has become a daily routine giving nightmares to border residents, Vakil said.
