NEW DELHI: Indian men and women elite cyclists today won five medals — one gold, three silver and one bronze — on the opening day of the Track Asia Cup at the IG Stadium Complex Velodrome here today.
Anu Chutia opened India’s medal account by winning a silver in the 500m race distance event in the junior women category in a time of 40.093 seconds.
Promising cyclist from SAI National Cycling Academy (SAINCA), Amritha Reghunathan grabbed the gold clocking 39.927s. India has fielded two additional teams of SAINCA and Western Indian Team (WIT).
In women’s elite event of 500m race distance, 20-year-old Deborah managed to get a silver in new national record time of 35.776 seconds after losing to Korea’s Kim Wangyeong who completed in 35.179 seconds. Deborah improved her own national record of 37.680 seconds in the same event which she created in the National Games early this year in Kerala. (AGENCIES)
