SINGAPORE, July 2: A 36-year-old Indian national was today jailed for four weeks for driving a truck into a man directing traffic along an expressway.
Ramiah Karuppiah was charged for negligently causing the death of the Filipino when he dozed off and ploughed his vehicle into the man on June 13 last year.
He was also banned from driving for five years over the fatal accident.
Ramiah pleaded guilty to failing to exercise proper control over his tipper truck at about 2am that day, causing it to veer to the left into the second lane of expressway and hit Allan Galimba Galvez, 44, resulting in the Filipino’s death.
A district court heard that the first and second lanes of the expressway were then closed for road works, The Straits Times reported. (PTI)
