Indian Skill Development Service to be notified shortly: Govt

NEW DELHI, Dec 3:
The new ‘Indian Skill Development Service’ will be notified shortly to further intensify Government’s ambitious ‘Skill India’ programme, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
“Central Government has approved formation of a service in the name of Indian Skill Development Service. The service will be notified shortly in consultation with the Union Public Service Commission and other concerned departments,” Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said in a written reply.
The service will be useful in creation of a dedicated skill development cadre.
The Union Cabinet had in October this year given its approval for the formation of a Group ‘A’ service of the technical cadre of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
The UPSC conducts civil services examination every year to recruit officers for Indian Administration Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Service (IFoS), among others. Officers for the new service may also be selected through the civil services exam, a senior Government official said.
The ‘Skill India’ programme is targeted at enhancing existing skills of the citizens. (PTI)
