India willing to exercise 15 years moratorium on veto power at UNSC

NEW DELHI: A day after the Indian permanent representative informed a UN committee that India was ready to forgo its veto power in case is granted permanent seat at reformed Security Council, the External Affairs Ministry today said the G-4 countries are ready to exercise a moratorium for 15 years on their right to veto.

MEA spokesperson Gopal Baglay said in his first regular media briefing that the G-4, which comprises Brazil, Germany and Japan along with India, has agreed mainly three point, so far as the UN Security Council reforms are concerned.

“First, there should be expansion in both permanent and non permanent category and the new entrants in the permanent category could exercise a moratorium for 15 years on their right to veto which is available to the current permanent members,” he said. (AGENCIES)
