February 3 was a momentous day for the U-19 Indian cricket team as it beat the Australian team and thus won for the fourth time the prestigious world cup for Under -19 cricketers. The team, while rejoicing their hard won victory soon when the last ball was bowled, had praise for Rahul Dravid the team manager. On his part Rahul said that he would not take names because his boys gave an excellent proof of team work which is the hall mark of a successful and enterprising team. Though Indian team lost the wicket of its captain with still the score on the board being paltry, yet the line of batsmen rose to the occasion and demonstrated superb performance of bat and footwork. The way the team pulled its chestnuts out of fire gave confidence to the selectors that they had made the right selection of the youngsters. Rahul Dravid praising the boys for their brilliant performance said that this was the beginning and the boys had to prove their metal in big matches in which they will have to perform. Delhi-boy Manjot Kalra emerged as the man for big occasion, scoring a sublime 101 not out off 102 balls and anchoring the innings after the loss of captain Prithvi Shaw and team’s leading scorer in the tournament, Shubman Gill.
The U-19 team has made India proud. The good news has made our youth happy and proud and a great reception awaits them when are back home. With recording the fourth win of the trophy for U-19, India has broken the record of Australia and is now one step ahead. We can say with fair amount of certainty that our boys have the potential and the capacity to be always on the top.
