India provides NRs 620 million for construction of embankments

KATHMANDU : India has provided Nepali Rs 619.63 million in financial assistance to Nepal for construction of embankments along three major rivers in the country’s south to check flooding in the downstream areas.
Ambassador of India to Nepal Ranjit Rae today handed over a cheque of NRs 619.63 million to Deepak Giri, Minister of Irrigation, Government of Nepal as India’s contribution towards constructing the embankments, Indian Embassy said in a statement here.
It comes as part of India’s share towards embankment building along Lalbakeya, Bagmati and Kamla rivers.
With the present assistance, the total grant assistance already disbursed for embankment construction along these rivers, stands at over NRs 4.5 billion.
“India remains committed to continue working closely with Nepal for further cooperation in the field of water resources, including the river training works on other rivers,” the statement said. (AGENCIES)
