SRINAGAR, May 3: Hurriyat leader and Chairman, Democratic Freedom Party, Shabir Ahmad Shah today welcomed the resumption of dialogue and restoration of trade ties between India and Pakistan. Shah said that both India and Pakistan should take political initiatives and solve the Kashmir issue.
Addressing a press conference here, Shah said that trade ties cannot be a permanent feature unless Kashmir issue is solved. He said peace and prosperity of the entire sub-continent hinges on the final dispensation of the Kashmir issue, adding that priority should be given for the solution of the issue.
“It is good that India and Pakistan have come close and they are taking steps for better understanding. These initiatives cannot be successful unless there is some headway in solving the Kashmir issue. Solution of the Kashmir issue is important for the overall peace and both countries should be aware of this thing,” said Shah.
He said that elections can never be a solution to the Kashmir issue, adding that these can solve only the administrative matters. He said that moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference would never take any part in the elections. He claimed that there is no democracy in the state saying that freedom of expression is being muzzled.
He said that Kashmir is incomplete without Kashmiri Pandits, adding that Hurriyat Conference vouches for the return of Kashmiri Pandits to valley. He said that return of Kashmiri Pandits should be a natural process without any conditions or pre-conditions.
