Independent, Cong Councillors to boycott general house meeting

JAMMU, Sept 8: Independent and Congress Councillors of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) have announced boycott of the upcoming general house meeting of the urban local body which is scheduled for September 10, 2021.
In a press conference here today Independent Councillors Amit Gupta of Ward 19 (Chand Nagar-Jewel area), Sucha Singh of Ward 31 (Bhagwati Nagar area), Ashok Manhas of Ward 59 (Paloura) and Congress Councillor, Gorav Chopra of Ward 28 said that the general house meeting which will be virtual one and will start at 2:00 pm and will be there till 5:00 pm.
“How can the Chair take issues of 73 Councillors in only three hours,” Sucha Singh said adding that the whole exercise seems a mere ritual to kill time.
JMC Councillor, Amit Gupta claimed that in three years only eight general house meetings of the Corporation have been conducted which reflects poor performance.
“In a short meeting on virtual mode they will neither be in a position to take questions nor any resolution could be put,” he maintained adding that all the Independent and Congress Councillors have decided to boycott the general house meeting in protest.
He also said, if Parliament can function in pandemic why not then general house of JMC can function.
“The Mayor and others are escaping opposition on lapse of much of the money of 14 Finance Commission,” Gupta claimed.
