Increase action against peddlers, redress public grievances: DGP

JAMMU, Jan 9: To review the law and order, crime and security scenario, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh on second day of his tour to Kashmir today visited Kulgam and Awantipora districts in South Kashmir.
During his visit, the DGP chaired review meetings with all jurisdictional police officers at these district headquarters.
DGP first visited Kulgam district where he was received by the DIG SKR Atul Kumar Goel and SP Kulgam Gurinderpal Singh and at Awantipora he was accompanied by DIG SKR and was received by the SP Awantipora Tahir Saleem. SPs of the respective districts apprised the DGP about the crime and security scenario of these districts.
DGP Dilbag Singh while addressing officers in these meetings said that Jammu and Kashmir Police along with other security agencies are fighting on multiple fronts including those against drug peddlers and crime. He added that people’s participation must be increased by interacting with civil society at different levels.
He impressed upon Police Officers that besides measures for maintaining peace and order in coordination with other security agencies, we must focus on tackling the crime against women and weaker sections of the society.
DGP stressed on redressing the genuine grievances of the public and increasing the public outreach by organizing more & more community based initiatives & programmes.
He also stressed for curbing the malpractice of drugs and directed that strict actions has to be taken against the people involved in the drug trade. He also stressed strict action against the rumour mongers, trying to create panic in the UT.
At Kulgam the meeting was attended DIG SKR, SP Kulgam Gurinderpal Singh, Additional SP Kulgam Ajaz Ahamd Zargar, all Sub Divisional Police Officers/DySPs, SHOs and DOs of district Kulgam. In Awantipora the meeting was attended by SSP Pulwama Tahir Saleem, all DySPs and jurisdictional police officers of the district.
At Awantipora, a pipping ceremony was also held in which the DGP decorated recently promoted Head Constables and Assistant Sub Inspectors and congratulated them and their families.
DGP said that PHQ, and other higher offices of the police wings have been consistently working on promoting more and more deserving personnel. He said the welfare of the Police personnel is among our top priorities. He said that more and more welfare measures are being discussed at different levels to provide different benefits to our personnel.
