SRINAGAR, Apr 16: Incessant rain caused a flood-like situation in Kashmir, even though the Meteorological Centre Srinagar said there would be overall improvement in weather from Tuesday.
Incessant rainfall since Saturday drenched the Kashmir valley, bringing down the temperature, while some higher reaches, including the tourist resort of Gulmarg, received fresh snowfall during the past 24 hours.

Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir Valley witnessed the heavy downpour that caused flash floods at various places and inundated several nallahs, roads, and low-lying areas, disrupting normal activities in the in the prevailing wintry conditions.
The higher reaches of Kashmir Valley, including the ski resorts of Gulmarg and Sonamarg, received fresh snowfall during the past 24 hours.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar said that Srinagar received 28.3mm, Qazigund 44.2mm, Pahalgam 39.0mm, Kupwara 28.6mm, Kokernag 28.9mm, and Gulmarg 32.8mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours.
The MeT office said that the weather is likely to remain partially to generally cloudy with a spell of rain, thundershowers at scattered, isolated places towards late afternoon or evening today. The weather will remain dry on April 17.
On April 18?19, the MeT predicted light to moderate rain and light snow over higher reaches at most places with thunder and lightning during the period, while there is a possibility of light rain at scattered places on April 20.
The weather will remain generally dry from April 21 to April 25, with afternoon thundershower activity that can’t be ruled out.
It has also advised farmers to resume farm operations on April 17 and after April 21.
The night temperature at Srinagar recorded during the intervening nights of Monday and Tuesday was 0.3 degrees Celsius below the normal of 7.9 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperature at Srinagar was recorded at 14.5 degree Celsius on Monday, which was 5.6 degree Celsius below normal of 20.1 degree Celsius. The daytime temperature at other weather stations in the Kashmir valley was also recorded at 5 to 11 degree Celsius below normal on the previous day.
Pahalgam recorded a low of 8.1 degree Celsius against the 5.7 degree Celsius the previous night, Kupwara recorded a low of 6.4 degree Celsius against the 7.2 degree Celsius a day ago and Gulmarg had a low of 3.2degree Celsius against the 1.2 degree Celsius recorded on previous night and it was 2.8 degree Celsius below normal for the ski resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the MeT office said.
