* Inaugurates Panchayat Ghar at Mathwar

JAMMU, Dec 26: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar today said that Government will soon provide insurance cover to the Panchs and Sarpanchs.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating Panchayat Ghar at Mathwar in Bhalwal block, Mr Sagar said, “Government would very shortly provide insurance cover to the Panchs and Sarpanchs besides adequate remuneration”, adding “Government led by Omar Abdullah believes in sustained action rather than rhetoric and false promises”.
Maintaining that the Government was committed to strengthen democratic institutions in the State, he said that a vibrant and empowered Panchayati Raj system has been established for ensuring effective democratic decentralization of powers at the grass root level.
Minister of State for Rural Development, Ajaz Ahmed Khan, Advisor to Chief Minister, Davinder Rana, MLA Nagrota, Jugal Kishore, Rattan Lal Gupta, Directors of Rural Development, Jammu and Kashmir, Shafiq Ahmed Raina, Mir Altaf Ahmed, Additional District Development Commissioner, Jammu, Rehana Batool, SE REW, ACD Jammu, K K Sidha and other senior officers of the department and administration were present.
Mr Sagar said that the Government has ensured adequate empowerment of the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) by empowering them with powers of 14 vital departments and this has created flutters in a particular political party, which in a state of frustration has now resorted to spreading lies and false rumors. He said that the said party had initially opposed the holding of Panchayat elections and the subsequent empowerment of the PRIs but the people by participating in large numbers in the elections have given them a befitting reply.
Mr Sagar also announced the construction of Bumiyal-Mathwar link road to be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs. 15 lakh, besides a Community Hall. He also distributed Rs 50,000 under 13th Finance commission to the Panchyats of Bhalwal block.
Minister of State for Rural Development, Ajaz Khan said that Government has ensured the empowerment of people at grass root level by putting in place a vibrant Panchayati Raj System (PRS) and care would be taken to ensure that the same is strengthened in every aspect.
He said that the Government believes in fulfilling all the commitments made by it so that the democratic set up is further strengthened and the benefit of various welfare programs percolates to the targeted and genuine beneficiaries.
Advisor to Chief Minister, Davender Rana while highlighting the importance of proper infrastructure for carrying out the day-to-day activities of PRIs said that the same would be strengthened in every nook and corner of the state in order to facilitate the working of PRS in the state.
Mr Rana said that the Government would leave no stone unturned to ensure that democratic decentralization of powers takes place in the State at every level. He said that the holding of Panchayati elections and putting in place a vibrant PRS was a watershed in the political history of the State maintaining the party which had initially opposed it has now in a state of frustration resorted to lies and false hood.
