Imran plays a Rough & Tough Character in MKBKM

Simar Jeet Singh Bhatia
Imran is playing the role of a Haryanavi youth in film-maker Vishal Bhardwaj’s film “Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola.” In a bid to get under the skin of this character called “Matru” Imran reportedly put on some weight and also sports a beard in this film. What is more, Imran is seen using abusive language.
Insiders reveal that foul and abusive language has been used abundantly just in Vishal’s earlier films like “Omkara” & “Kaminey.” The language used was so abusive that Vishal’s close friend Gulzar expressed his worry & advised Vishal to tone it down.
Imran was required to speak ‘Haryanvi. “It was very difficult to get the pronunciation right” says Imran who reportedly took lessons to get pronunciation as well body language right for this kind of role. (IMran has done his MBA from USA).
Anuska Sharma, fresh from the success of “Jab Tak Hain Jaan” is seen in the role of Bijli, the bubbly young daughter of Harry Mandola (Pankaj Kapoor). Harry Mandola who loves just two things his drink & his daughter.
Anushka is very excited about “Matru…” which is released thorughout the country.
“I am greedy as an actor & want to play different roles. It is hard to stereotype me. I’m blessed that I got to work with a director like Vishal Bhardwaj so early in my career. His cinema is edgy. And he doesn’t do it for effect that is how he is as a person as well. I love the fact that he makes earthy films. His characters are extraordinary. He introduces his films based on his characters. Like this film is called “Matroo Ki Bijli Ka Mandola.” The title includes the 3 characters of the film-Matroo, Bijli & Mandola.”
The film deals with the relationship Bijli & Harry share with Matru. Much to her fathe’s delight, Bijli is all set to marry Baadal (Arya Babbar), the son of a powerful politician Chaudhari Devi (Shabana Azmi). This seemingly simple alliance leads to various twists and turns in the lives of Matru, Bijli & Mandola.
Aarya Babbar who plays Baadal, sports a suave look in “MKBKM.” I play a suave Oxford returned guy in “Matru..” It is a black comedy a different act altogether. This movie is definitely a must watch out for!” says Aarya Babbar & adds “If it is a Vishal Bhardwaj project perfection is the 2nd name Vishal Sir is cool friendly and patient director who knows exactly what is he is doing. He is amazing with characterisation and his sense of script and screenplay is amazing.
“Matru Ki Bijli Kas Mandola is also going to be a memorable film for the fans of Pankaj Kapoor (father of actor Shahid Kapoor) for reasons more than one. Pankaj who is now 58 years old, has danced for the Ist time in this movie on numbers sung by himself. Pankaj has sung 2 songs in “Matru…”.
Pankaj Kapoor also did TV serials like “Karamchand Jasoos, “ “Office-office” (which was later also made as a feature film) turned director with his home production “Mausam” starring Shahid & sonam in key roles. Unfortunately, “Mausam” flopped & Pankaj returned to his Ist love-acting! A graduate from NSD, Delhi, Pankaj is enjoying every hit of his career as an actor!
Imran Khan alias “Matru” is all praise for his co-star Anuska in “MKBKM.” In his words:
“I found Anuska to be extremely straight forward non-complexed person. She was easy to work with and easy to make friends with. I’m really glad she was my co-star for such a tough role in “Matru…Ki Bijli Ka Mandola.”
The movie directed by debutant supavitra Babul with lyrics by Kumar & music by Raghav Sachar.
