JAMMU, Jan 3: An impressive ‘Nagar-Kirtan’ was taken out by the Sikh community people supported by all communities, in connection with the forthcoming Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj, the 10th Guru of Sikhism, who laid down his own life and sacrificed his father, mother and sons for the sake of humanity and protection of right cause of community.

The ‘Shobha Yatra’ started from Gurdwara Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Chand Nagar ( Lower Gumat), Jammu, marching through Dogra Chowk, Bikram Chowk, Asia Hotel, Green Belt Park Gandhi Nagar, Govt Hospital Gandhi Nagar Road, Gole Market and finally culminated at Gurdwara Sri Singh Sabha, Nanak Nagar, in Jammu.
A large number of devotees including Hindus participated in this impressive Nagar Kirtan. Guru Granth Sahib had been mounted on a highly decorated vehicle, converted into a wonderful and beautiful chariot. This vehicle was fitted with loud speakers and devotees were chanting Gurvani Path and raising religious slogans in the praise of great Guru. The people from all colours and creeds participated in large number. Due to COVID, the number of participants had been minimized this time by the DGPC.
Famous Parcharak Bhai Harjinder Singh Manjhi, Parcharak Bhai Harmeet Singh -Makhanpur Simbal, Bhai Nirmal Singh -Dhadi Jatha, Bibi Davinder Kour – Kavishri, Panthak Kavi Bhai Sulakhan Singh Arshi, Panth Di Awaz Bhai Balbir Singh Kamal and Panthak Kavi Bhai Ranjeet Singh Khalsa- Jagadhari Wale participated, recited the poetry and threw light on the history, life and teachings of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj.
A large number of people from Hindu community also paid their obeisance to the great Guru and joined the religious procession en-route. The Sikh youth played Ghatka and showed many feats during the Nagar Kirtan. A large number of devotees were sweeping the roads, where from the Nagar Kirtan was being taken out. To greet the Nagar Kirtan the shopkeepers and many Associations en route had erected welcome gates. Besides, the stalls with food items, fruits, water and juice had been raised by the people from different sections of society at various places to serve the devotees taking taken part in Nagar Kirtan.
The authorities had made elaborate arrangements for the Nagar Kirtan and the traffic was also diverted from the Nagar- Kirtan route to the other alternate routes.
The proceedings of Nagar Kirtan was conducted by the general secretary of District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu, Fateh Singh.
Jagjit Singh, president, District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu congratulated the devotees and said that Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj saved the humanity and spread the message of love, equality and worship among whole world. He appealed to the Sangat for the participation in the Gurupurab Samgan at Gurdwara Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Chand Nagar, Jammu on Jan 5 from 10 am to 4 pm. DGPC Member, Avtar Singh Khalsa extended gratitude to the District Administration ad Traffic Police for the cooperation.
Meanwhile, similar Nagar-Kirtan was taken out by the Sikh community members at Kathua town to mark the occasion. Shobha Yatra commenced from Gurdwara Singh Sabha Kathua and it after passing through various markets and roads culminated at the same place. DC Kathua Rahul Yadav, SSP R C Kotwal and several other senuior officers and prominent people from other communities also joined. DGPC Kathua president Charanjit Singh was leading the religious procession.
