Implement MIS to help orchardists: Mir

SRINAGAR, Nov 8: Expressing deep disappointment over the losses suffered by the horticulture sector in Kashmir due to untimely snowfall this year, PDP spokesman and MLA Rafiabad, Yawar Dilawar Mir urged the Governor to implement much hyped Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) that has been suspended for unknown reasons.
He said that it seems the Governor has not been briefed by his administration about the contours of this farmer friendly scheme.
“While the promises of compensation by the Governor led administration for orchardists is appreciable, the proposed relief amount should be doubled from Rs 10 to Rs 20 per kilogram of apple that has been hit by the snowfall,” he demanded.
He further said that the compensation should commensurate with the quality of apple produce lost due to the snowfall.
