Ram Rattan Sharma
In modern life, Social Media is developing fast. It is used by many people all over the World. Social Media is very popular especially among the young. However , there are many young people who cannot control themselves and are addicted to social media. Addiction to Social media has many serious effects including poor study habits, living away from reality and bad health.
Addiction to Social media makes the youth poor in studies. Because of Social media , many students who were excellent students have become bad students. Everyday these students come to class but they donot focus on studying, while their professors are teaching. They are using cell phones to surfing facebook ,instagram or chat with friends on messenger. They always check their cell phones every five minutes to see what is going on Social media. If the young use social media in classes, how can they listen to the professors and understand what professors are saying. Moreover not only at School, but also at home. These young students who are addicted to social media do not exercise or read the new lesson before going to school, because they are very busy with social media. In the past they were hardworking students. They always did home work and prepared for new lessons so they got A grade . However , everything has changed since they started using social media too much. In classes, instead of listening to the professors, they always post selfies on facebook and instagram. At home with the attraction of social media , they continue using their cell phones and do not study or do homework. As a result in the midterm exam and final exam, they only get C and D grades. Addiction to social media causes a bad habit in studies. It can change a young person from an excellent student to a bad one.
Secondly, young people who are addicted to social media live far away from reality. Because of using a cell phone all day, they will not have time for outdoor activities such as playing sports, or camping. Instead of going out to meet friends or talk to their parents. These people love chatting with friends on social media . They will stay at home and update their news on social media. They post status or photos to share with their friends on social media.
Using Social media too much will have serious impact on health, staying up late is really harmful to the health, especially the brain. If the young do not sleep enough, their health will be affected seriously by losing weight or always feeling tired. Their brain will also not work effectively and they will be in sleepy condition. Moreover addiction to Social media can cause depression in the young.
These young people can envy the people who are more famous or intelligent than them, and they also feel ashamed of themselves. As they always wonder why they cannot be excellent, talented or beautiful like others. Therefore, they feel under pressure stressed and depressed. These mental problems are very dangerous to the young people because these mental problems cause the young people lose their minds and eventually choose death. Although using social media has many effects on our life, addiction to social media is not good, it will have awful influence on studying, effects our health and mind and keep us away from reality. In order to avoid being addicted to social media young people should spend more time playing sports studying, and taking part in other activities of schools.
Even though social media site seem to connect more people and make them stay upto date, it leads to isolation socially. The use of social media has both negative and positive impacts on our youths today. The positive impact of social media on the youth today including making them update on the events happening around the globe and also enables them stay connected with their fellow youth and friends without physical meeting. It bridges the gap between friends. In the wake of technology evolution, we have facilities that place the world at our fingertips and gives us the ability to connect with anyone , anywhere, anytime. It has given us insight into the world beyond our borders and an opportunity to achieve goals that once seems unrealistic and too far stretched.
Parents should guide and advice their children on current matters like the usage of social media and warn to them of its negative impact to them when misused are over used. The education curriculum also should be revised, so that it can include social media studies in its disciplines, so as to alert students.
The instantaneous nature of social media platforms such as facebook, instagram, twitter and snapchat, among others, has created , a new communication channel to connect and share information. Today we interact, comment upon, and share anything , anytime. The downside of social media platforms however, is the scope of their misuse to spread misinformation. Since anyone can today become an influencer, it is crucial to safeguard the genuine users from possible threats.
