JAMMU, May 27: Excise Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan has issued orders for immediate opening of the leftover liquor vends in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The Excise and Taxation Officers without asking from the administration shall now allow the licenses to open their vends immediately”, the Excise Commissioner said in the order, adding “in case the Deputy Commissioners have any reservation regarding opening of shops in their jurisdictions, the same may be conveyed for further action”.
He has reiterated that there should not be any resistance from the Excise Department in opening of shops once the physical verification is complete. “The Excise and Taxation Officers shall leave it to the discretion of Deputy Commissioners alone as Chairman/Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority for enforcing MHA/UT Administration guidelines pertaining to COVID-19/social distancing”, the Excise Commissioner has mentioned in the order.
It is pertinent to mention here that in view of varied instructions in each district, the Excise and Taxation Officers were not in a position to open the shops other than the standalone ones and were seeking necessary clarification orders from the office of the Excise Commissioner.
