SRINAGAR, June 6: Police today said to have seized illicit timber in Main Bazar Zachaldara of North Kashmir’s Handwara while arresting the driver of the vehicle in which the timber was being transported.
Police said that during the intervening night of 5/6 June 2022, Police Party from Police Post Zachaldara at a checkpoint established at Main Bazar Zachaldara intercepted a vehicle bearing registration No. JK05C-4553.
“During checking, illicit timber was recovered from the said vehicle, and the driver of the vehicle identified as Sonaullah Wani son of Gh Rasool resident of Badkoot was arrested on the spot.”
Besides, police said, the vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized. “He has been shifted to PS where he remains in custody.”
Accordingly, police said, a case FIR No. 153/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Handwara and an investigation has been taken up.
