JAMMU, Sept 17: The 28th day of Natrang’s International Theatre Talk show, live on its Facebook page, was illuminated by the stimulating ‘Vision of Theatre’ of internationally acclaimed eminent theatre, film and television actress and singer, Ila Arun.
Padmashri Balwant Thakur, Director Natrang, informed that this talk show is being attended by theatre enthusiasts from across the globe, thus making immense contribution in awareness and promotion of the ‘Vision of Theatre’ of the most celebrated theatre personalities of India.
Natrang’s artist Vrinda Sharma introduced Ila Arun to the guests.
In an electrifying session, Ila narrated her inspirational and eventful journey in theatre. A vivid storyteller Ila very interestingly recited her journey act-wise which created attraction for the audience. When she started doing theatre, very early she pursued a short term course from NSD on receiving a scholarship from Sangeet Natak Akademi which was a very enriching experience for her. She considered herself fortunate that she could work with and learn from the stalwarts of the field like Mohan Maharishi, Ebrahim Alqazi, Manohar Singh, Bhanu Bharti and more.
Being well acquainted with Rajasthani folk and culture, she has proved an asset for her in every medium. Ila visions to speak to society, speak to women with relevant content. She believes that with cultivated skills, an actor has to find his/her space in play.
Citing glaring examples from her plays, she suggested how mythology can be contemporized so that it is rooted yet could connect with people and leaves a lasting impact on them. Essentially an innate performer, Ila very wisely steers her fame earned from films and singing towards her passion of theatre as theatre provides breathing space after doing commercial things.
With a keen desire to work for the betterment of women, Ila aspires to make an all women theatre infrastructure, where women perform all the responsibilities. A relentless learner who wants to understand different cultures, Ila expressed her willingness to collaborate with Natrang to do meaningful work in Jammu. She asserts that theatre should be introduced to children and they should be exposed to their culture and language.
She terms her style as ‘theatre from observation’ which has worked for her every time and suggests that, to feel the emotions, you have to be real while you are acting.
