KARGIL, May 6: Recalling Prime Minister Modi’s promises made with the people of Kargil, Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT), a religious organization, today organized a massive protest rally against the Government.
The protesters marched through main bazaar Kargil and culminated at Laal Chowk. Carrying placards in their hands, the protesters were demanding early execution of work on Zojilla Tunnel, Air connectivity to Kargil and transparent digital connectivity.
Addressing the gathering at Laal Chowk, vice chairman of IKMT, Maulana Abass Karrai, said that he want to remind Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who on a visit to Kargil had said, “I will develop Kargil like Kutch”.
“In a wake of continuous deprivation and discrimination we the people of Kargil are losing faith on democracy and Government should not compel us to rethink about our loyality”, said Karrari.
Karrai further said the people of Kargil have “track record” towards serving the nation since 1948 but the Government is continuously ignoring their demands and they are being discriminated every time. “We have no women college, no connectivity since last six months” he added.
Maulana Karrari said, “When we speak about opening Kargil-Skardu road or Turtuk -Khapulu road then the Government agencies say that there might be security problem, but I would say Kargil is secure not because of you but because of people of Kargil”. “IKMT will announce calendar of protest soon if our demands are not addressed”, he added.
Chairman IKMT, Shiekh Mohammad Hussain Lutfi while speaking to the gathering said that the people of Kargil were always being discriminated whether it was an issue of connectivity, education or recruitment in Army.
He said, “Government should not repeatedly treat us like non- Indians otherwise we would be compelled to think towards our loyality and affiliation”.
