LEH, Nov 23: Indian Institute of Packaging, an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt of India, organized a skill development programme on packaging for craftsman/artisan of Leh-Ladakh.
The programme was inaugurated by Additional Dy Commissioner, Leh, Sonam Chosjor in presence of Director IIP Dr Tanweer Alam and coordinated by Chief Planning Officer Leh, Tsewang Gyalson. General Manager, District Industries Centre Leh, A G Zargar, Superintendent Handloom & Handicraft Rinchen and Dy Director IIP- Delhi Subodh K Juikar were also present during the programme.
During the inauguration programme, Addl Dy Commissioner highlighted the need for packaging of different products produced at Leh Ladakh, which will certainly help marketing of handloom and handicraft products of the region.
Director IIP gave a presentation and elaborated the packaging needs of different commodities of Ladakh, which will boost the business to the national and international market. Further, IIP has shown willingness to give training for different clusters and highlighted the need for common facilities center of packaging for Leh – Ladakh.
After the presentation, Director IIP- interacted with the artisans and replied their queries. One technical session was taken by Subodh K Juikar, Dy Director-IIP-Delhi and finally Dr Alam addressed the media and highlighted the Govt of India’s concern for the people of Ladakh for focusing on packaging which is now very important for the Atmanirbhar Bharat Mission of Govt of India.
It was the overwhelming response from the participants and more than 40 participants attended the programme. After the programme, the IIP team visited the artisans workplace for understanding their activities and to help them.
