Jammu, May 26: The J&K Government has allotted about 15 Acres of land to Indian Institute of Mass Communication for setting up of its permanent campus in Jammu.
The MoU/ Lease Deed for the land was signed on behalf of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting by Mayank Kumar Agrawal, Additional Director General, IIMC and Hemant Kumar Sharma, Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department in the presence of Priya Sethi, Minister of State for Higher Education Department, at a function organized in her office chamber in Srinagar on May 24, 2016.
Besides others Mrs Sarita Chouhan, Commissioner/ Secretary to J&K Government, Social Welfare Department, Abdul Hamid, Additional Secretary, Higher Education, PVK Raja, Deputy Registrar, IIMC New Delhi and Manohar Khajuria, Special Officer, IIMC Jammu Centre, were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Sethi desired to take up some more courses including some short term Media/ Communication courses at the new centre of IIMC for State personnel/officials so as to improve the existing level of expertise with them. She said the construction of new campus will help in raising the standards of specialised education in mass communication in the State.
Mayank Agrawal conveyed that the process for construction of boundary wall on the demarcated land will be taken up urgently whereas the other functional buildings would be taken up for construction after preparation of designs / estimates etc. and completion of other requirements. Soon after setting up of the permanent campus, the process for taking up other courses in Jammu Centre would be considered.
In his message on the occasion, K G Suresh, Director General, IIMC described the land allotment as a milestone in IIMC’s journey and expressed hope that the Jammu centre would emerge as a major centre of media education in the country.
After Delhi and Dhenkanal, Jammu Centre is becoming more attractive and gaining importance as the overall performance of the Jammu Centre set up in 2012-13 is excellent as for as academic results are concerned. Jammu Centre has privilege of securing hat trick in bagging first position in all three batches of IIMC across the country passed out since its inception.
IIMC Jammu Centre is currently offering PG Diploma in English Journalism- an intensive one year programme, wherein students are exposed to Print Journalism, TV & Radio News production which involves a combination of theory and practical classes.
