IIMC Jammu holds workshop on conflict reporting

JAMMU, Nov 16: Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) today organized a workshop on Conflict Reporting to make aware the students of mass communication about various aspects of news reporting from conflict areas and defence reporting.
PRO Defence, Northern Command, Udhampur, Lieutenant Colonel Abhinav Navneet was the resource person where as the Regional Director of IIMC Manohar Khajuria supervised the workshop.
Lieutenant Colonel Abhinav Navneet threw light on various nuances of reporting from the areas infested with terrorism and armed conflict. He dwelt on the issues of human right violations, operations against terrorists and objectivity in reporting from these disturbed areas. Since various agencies are involved in tackling the operations so reporting should be based on the information from the authentic source only.
He asked the budding reporters to be very cautious while reporting firing incidents across the borders or encounters with terrorists and keep in mind the paramount national interest.
While answering various queries of the students on defence reporting, Lieutenant Colonel Navneet advised the budding journalists to be very realistic in reporting and during said process they should keep in mind the stress level of the defence forces dealing that situation as well.
Manohar Khajuria in his address said IIMC will organize more such workshops with the experts from various fields to hone the skills of the students in journalism and mass communication.
Among others, faculty members of IIMC Dr Anubhav Mathur and Sanjit Khajuria were also present on the occasion.
