IIM Sirmaur organizes Induction Programme

SIRMOUR (HP), July 15:  Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur held an impressive Induction programme for the PGP batch 2017-19, here today.
Prof Himanshu Rai, Professor of OB &HRM, IIM Lucknow, was the keynote speaker on the occasion. He spoke at length and deliberated on the theme ‘Management Education and Ethics’. In his motivating style, he threw light on the different forms of leadership and the various schools of ethics. Citing from ‘Mahabharata’ and several other anecdotes from mythology and literature alike, Prof Rai advised the incoming batch to take right actions irrespective of the outcome; to live by choice brings in joy. He closed his talk by sending a message to be passionate about life and work.
Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Director, IIM Sirmaur, in her address, underscored the importance of taking initiatives. She further emphasized the need for experiencing both – the good and the bad in one’s life since failures too are essential in shaping one’s success story. She encouraged the students to always keep trying.
While interacting with new batch, Prof Rohmetra emphasized upon the value of sharing stories. “Even if you do not achieve what you wanted to, your story will serve as a lesson for many others”, she said.
Lt Gen Kochhar, CEO, Telecom Sector Skill Council, highlighted the importance of having a clear vision by stating that one must be clear about what he/she wants to achieve in life. He urged the participants to think beyond placements. While delivering an insightful perspective of what corporate expects from IIM pass out, Gen  Kochhar explained how being associated with an IIM provides the well-earned leverage. He emphasised on the importance of negotiation skills and the need to ‘market’ oneself.
Prof Abhijit Bhattacharya, Dean Faculty, IIM Lucknow, emphasised on the need of being serious with academics. He said that students often concentrate more on pay packages and forget to work hard and bridge the gap between their true potential and their actual performance.  He asked the participants to focus on establishing their stronghold in their field of expertise. “Money will follow once they develop a strong grasp of the discipline of their choice”, he added.
Prof Ajay Garg, Professor of Finance & Accounting, IIM Lucknow, charged the senior batch to work in tandem with the incoming batch toward carrying the torch of IIM Sirmaur forward and to become its finest brand ambassadors in the process.
IIM Sirmaur, 16th to be established as the 3rd generation IIM, offers a serene environment just perfect for leadership. The induction marked the orientation and welcome of 3rd PGP batch wherein students to the full intake capacity have opted to join IIM Sirmaur. The induction was preceded by the registration of students for PGP batch 2017-19.
Earlier Prof Ashok Ogra, Director, Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, also interacted with PGP batch and shared his views on the theme: “Trends and forces shaping the world”.  He  deliberated on innovation and how it has influenced the life style, the psyche and the buying habits of the people all over the world.
Prabhakar Tiwari an IIM Bangalore alumnus and founder MargDarshak Inc,   addressed and interacted with new batch on the theme: “Technology and Management- A Golden Gate to Future”.  Prof. Manoj Anand, UBS Chandigarh,  conducted exhaustive workshop on “Case method of learning”.
Prof  Anand Sharma, PGP Chair,  coordinated the programme and presented the formal vote of thanks. The sessions were attended by Prof  Vikas Kumar, Chair (Students affairs), Prof. Vaneet Kashyap, Chair (Placements), alumni, the senior PGP students (2nd batch) and the staff members of Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur.
