JAMMU, Aug 30: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu under the leadership of Prof BS Sahay (Director, IIM Jammu) hosted an enlightening session on mental health awareness led by Dr Piyali Arora, a distinguished Clinical Psychologist and Associate Professor in Psychology at Government Degree College (GDC), Udhampur.
The event took place today at Mandapam auditorium at the Jagti campus. Dr Piyali Arora delivered an insightful talk that raised awareness about mental health challenges. She discussed practical strategies for addressing these challenges, with a particular focus on the student community.
Reflecting on the session’s significance, Dr Piyali emphasized the vital role of mental health in students’ overall well-being. She highlighted that mental health is as crucial as physical health and must be addressed proactively for students’ success and growth. She discussed common mental disorders such as anxiety and depression, and the dangers of addiction, urging students to avoid harmful behaviours. She also stressed the importance of staying socially connected and seeking help to prevent suicidal thoughts.
Before her address, Dr Piyali conducted personalized one-to-one counselling sessions for a selected group of students, providing them with individualized support and guidance. Students had the opportunity to engage directly with Dr Piyali, addressing their specific concerns in a confidential setting.
The session provided students with a deeper understanding of mental health issues and allowed them to seek personalized guidance from a highly experienced professional.
IIM Jammu encouraged all students to take full advantage of the resources made available to them through this initiative. Present on the occasion were Dr Mamta Tripathi (Chairperson, Anandam, IIM Jammu) along with faculty, officers, staff and students of IIM Jammu. The event was organized and coordinated by Team Anandam, IIM Jammu.
The session concluded with a deep sense of awareness and empowerment among the students, who gained valuable insights into managing their mental health.
