Old education policy created educated unemployed: Dr Jitendra

JAMMU, June 16: As IIM Jammu awarded degrees to its Graduates during 6th Convocation, here today, Union Minister of Education, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan said that the higher education institutes must play key role in nurturing local aspirations while Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology and MoS PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh stressed the need for greater integration among the institutions.
“Our higher education institutes must play a key role in nurturing local aspirations, harnessing the full potential of the region, finding sustainable solutions to 21st century challenges and further the socio-economic progress of Jammu and Kashmir,” said Dharmendra Pradhan, while delivering his Convocation address in the presence of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and others.

Stressing that the nation has huge expectations from institutes like IIM Jammu and the students graduating from there, the Union Minister said that the nation looks at the youth neither as the Job-Creators nor as the Job-Seekers but as the Wealth-Creators of India.
“The country will be prosperous and secure if it has enough wealth created by the people in the society,” he opined and stressed that the students graduating from IIM have a huge responsibility on their shoulders toward the nation, towards their families and they must be ready to face every kind of challenge without sleeping in their comfort zones.
Stating that the demographic dividend, inequality, technological challenges, climate concern and the pandemic are the five biggest challenges being faced by the world today, the Union Minister said that the youth must find universal solutions to these challenges to make the world better place to live in.
He added that the youth of today have a greater responsibility to play in the next 25 years ‘the Amrit Kaal Period’ to make India a ‘Vishwa Guru’ in 2047 through innovations, ideas, business models, etc.
He suggested the IIM students to make a management case study of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine which was visited by 9 million pilgrims last year and set new business models of such examples.
“The responsibility of our great nation, this entire human civilization rests on the shoulders of the youth. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the progressive education system and the future oriented IT reforms are paving the strong foundation for the better future of the younger generation,” he said and stressed that IIM Jammu has a major role to play in this transformation as they will be providing a platform for knowledge transfer,
Dharmendra Pradhan suggested the IIM Jammu to invite Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Minister Jitendra Singh for delivering lectures to the Management students for sharing their experience of building J&K after abrogation of Article 370 and efficiently handling the crisis during pandemic, respectively.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, who was guest of honour in the convocation, stressed that present time is the era of innovations and the Government was providing every kind of technical as well as financial support for ideas to grow and sustain.
Stating that India is leading the Start-up Ecosystem in the world with more than one lakh start-ups & more than 100 unicorns today, Dr Jitendra Singh said management strategies are crucial to sustain StartUps.
“The greatest sustainability of Start-ups lies with the management scholars like the ones graduating today from IIM Jammu who can contribute to the Start-up revolution that is progressing in India,” he added.
Describing the National Education Policy- 2020 as one of the best things happened under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dr Jitendra Singh said the students today are the beneficiaries of the new education policy which ensures universal access at all levels of schooling and should have been done long before.
“Old education policy made youth prisoners of aspirations and created educated unemployed,” he said in his veiled attack on the previous Governments.
Maintaining that the era of working in silos was over and there was a need for greater integration among the institutions of learning, Dr Singh said that the youth of 2023 will define India @2047 who are blessed both with the challenges and opportunities and who can contribute in making India @ 2047 leaving behind the best economies in the world.
During the convocation, a total of 232 students were conferred with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree and 27 students of the First Batch of EMBA were conferred with an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) degree. In total, 259 Students were conferred with degrees this year.
On this occasion, the Institute conferred the Chairman’s Gold Medal, Director’s Silver Medal, and Chairperson MBA’s Bronze Medal for their scholastic performance of the Batch 2021-23. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan presented the medals and certificates to the students.
Anirudh Kaushik was awarded the Chairman’s Gold Medal (MBA); Sanyam Sehdev received the Director’s Silver Medal (MBA); Nikhil Beniwal got the Chairperson Bronze Medal (MBA), and Smita Priyadarshini got Chairman’s Gold Medal (EMBA).
Dr Milind P Kamble, Chairman, Board of Governors (BoG), IIM Jammu, in his welcome address, gave an overview of the Institute and urged the graduating students to make enriching contributions to society and mankind.
Prof B S Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, spoke about the progress of the Institute in the form of research publications, academics, infrastructure development, and fast-paced construction at the state-of-the-art campus at Jagti.
The event was attended by Vijay Gambhire, Member, BoG, IIM Jammu; Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Academics, IIM Jammu and all the faculty members, officers, staff members, graduating students and their family members.
