IIIM celebrates CSIR Foundation Day

JAMMU, Sept 26: The 76th Foundation Day of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) was celebrated here today at Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM) auditorium.
Eminent scientists, faculty members of research and educational institutions, entrepreneurs, invited dignitaries, guests, members of press & media and staff members of CSIR-IIIM were present on the occasion.
Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale, former Director, CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology  (CSIR-IGIB) and Staff Scientist, National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi was chief guest.
The celebration was organized in two days event where on the first day IIIM & VIBHA jointly organized a pre-cursor event in which the institute observed open day for students and various competitions were also organised.
There was quiz, extempore and science models competitions for the students of 9th to 12th class and also visit to various divisions of the institute where scientists and technical staff demonstrated the research activities. An impressive exhibition was held in which aromatic and medicinal products developed by CSIR-IIIM, Jammu were put on display.
On second day, Dr. Ram Vishwakarma, Director, IIIM Jammu in his welcome address introduced the chief guest to the audiences and described him as distinguished scientist of international repute who led interdisciplinary initiatives that have spawned new avenues in the area of functional genomics research and healthcare.
Dr. Gokhale delivered the CSIR foundation day lecture entitled ‘Renewing the romance in the love-lost marriage: Bio-entrepreneurship in India’.
He said that CSIR is a frontier R&D organization of our nation which indeed owes much responsibility of the science policy of this country in research and education.
The chief guest also distributed prizes for different activities conducted as part of foundation day celebrations.
In the extempore competition, First Prize won by Dheeraj Singh of Army Public School, Domana, Second Prize went to Pooja Chargotra of  St. Fransis Hr. Sec. School while  Neha Khajuria of Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Jammu got the third prize. Consolation Prize-1 was awarded to Paras Pandita from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bantalab and consolation Prize-2 to Akhilesh Bhat of Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2, Jammu
In the Science Model making competition, the First Prize winner was Sarthak Bhan and Prabhleen of SOS, Talab Tillo, Jammu for their Nitrogen Detection & Supplementation model, the Second Prize won by Shaheen Akhtar of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sunjuwan, for Vehicular Exhaust Filter and the Third Prize went to Akhil Koul from B.S.F. Senior Secondary for Bioplastic Factory. In this category, Harsh Singh of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sunjuwan for Wheelchair Model and Kunal Singh of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bantalab for Hydroponics got the two consolation prizes.
The Science quiz competition was also held. The First, Second and third prizes were won by Aditi Raina of Army Public School, Domana, Neeraj Sharma from KV-2 Akhnoor and Shivani Sharma of Shiksha Naketan Senior Secondary School, Jammu respectively. Anmol Raina, KV Bantalab and Sonal Abrol Shiksha Naketan Senior Secondary School, Jammu got consolation Prizes.
