Leh, Dec, 21: IGP Ladakh, S.S Khandare inaugurated the newly established Deputy Superintendent Traffic Police Office, Administration of UT Ladakh at Agling, here toady.
Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar, SSP Leh Sargun Shukla, ASP Leh, President Municipal Committee Dr.Ishey Namgyal, Deputy Commandant CRP Rigzin Angmo, DSP Headquarter Leh, DSP Traffic, ARTO Leh and other Police Officers were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion IGP Ladakh said that to keep any city beautiful it is a must to have proper system at place emphasizing primarily on proper traffic regulations and adequate parking spaces.
He instructed the DSP Traffic to submit a special proposal for road improvement, requirement, problems and challenges regarding traffic regulation and its enforcement in Leh town along with possible solutions.
He also asked the DSP traffic to identify spaces for parking in and around the town to decongest the roads and to ensure NOC from Traffic Police mandatory for any kind of commercial establishment.
He informed that Challan power will soon be delegated to the traffic police and all their requirements will be fulfilled in the next one year and the need of manpower will be provided by March so to start with the drill well on time.
Khandare urged the DSP Traffic to strict implement traffic regulations for smooth movement. He instructed to them to form an enforcement squad to ensure effective traffic management in Leh town and to regulate no parking areas strictly.
He also suggested ARTO Leh to setup a combine traffic information centre along with resting facility and Weight Bridge at Zojila-Lch and Manali-Leh highway considering the accidents caused by overload and rash negligence driving.
He also asked Police Department and ARTO Leh to identify parking space at the place of traffic on national highways and to provide a shed with other necessary facilities for stranded passengers and drivers. He gave full assurance to give enforcement support to trffic police.
Dy SP Rigzin Sangdup gave a detail power point presentation highlighting the road stretch of Nalional Highways and also the present traffic scenario in Leh town.
He projected the bottlenecks and pressure points in traffic regulation in Leh town and major challenges including increase in vehicular density, lack of parking, lack of shortage of recovery crane, traffic congestion with narrow toads etc.
He raised the need for sign boards, Zebra crossing, concert dividers, redesigning of footpath, traffic information board, rotary and traffic booths etc.
