JAMMU, Jan 20: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Traffic Jammu SA Wattali constituted an Internal Vigilance Group (IVG) to check the instances of malpractices and alleged harassment at the hands of traffic police personnel.
The IVG is headed by Staff Officer of IGP Traffic J&K. Ranjeet Bahadur Bandral, CPO THQ, Aftab Ahmad, PS to IGP Traffic J&K, Inspector Naseer Ahmad, SI Mahraj Krishan Koul, ASI Rajinder Kumar, ASI Mohammad Shafi, HC Abdul Majid and Constable Aijaz Iqbal will also be the part of IVG.
The head of the IVG can co-opt any other officer/official as member of the group.
The team is authorized to visit any location within the State incognito on surprise basis wherever traffic police is deployed and report any sort of harassment, malpractices, etc at the hands of traffic police personnel.
The team will ensure effective functioning so as to serve as a deterrent and submit its performance reports to IGP Jammu on monthly basis by or before 7th of every month. The report so submitted will inter-alia spell out the functioning of each TCP/place checked during the particular month and come up with suggestions vis-à-vis checking of the complaints of harassments and malpractices if any.
The IVG is authorized to take any lawful action upon detecting any instance of wrong doing or harassment etc at the hands of traffic police personnel. The IVG during its visit in different areas of the State besides inspecting/checking working of traffic police will also interact with local administration, transporters, etc and get their feed back also.
All the complaints of malpractices, high handedness, harassment, etc on the part of traffic police personnel will be dealt with by the IVG. All the reports regarding the functioning of the traffic police by press/media will also be verified by the IVG. The IVG from time to time will also come up with suggestions/recommendations for improving the overall working of the traffic police.
