LEH, Nov 8: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ladakh SS Khandare today assured of a very systematic and effective policing in Union Territory (UT) Ladakh and to start its different offices including IGP Office, Traffic Wing Office, CID Office, new police stations and training centers for police, Khandare requested LAHDC, Leh to allot required land for construction of these important establishments at the earliest.
He said this during a meeting organized at Council Secretariat this evening.
IGP said that the first priority Ladakh police will to improve traffic system in the Leh city for which they are already devising a comprehensive plan adding that a post of SP, Traffic and other required officers will be created soon. To manage the traffic issues in Leh, police will need required infrastructure support from LAHDC, Leh without which police alone can’t manage traffic problems, said Khandare.
IGP also apprised about the plans of Ladakh Police to introduce Tourist Police in UT Ladakh with proper training and these tourists friendly police personal will be deployed at famous tourist destination to facilitate tourists.
Regarding transfer of all the Ladakh police personal from UT J&K to UT Ladakh, IGP Khandare said transfer process has already started and informed that UT Ladakh still need additional police in thousands for which recruitment process will be devised in coming months.
Regarding opening of new police stations and check posts, Khandare asked LAHDC, Leh to forward their proposals and assured to move these proposal after examination for approval and regarding providing of PSOs to Deputy Chairman and ECs of Hill Council Leh, IGP said that a meeting of security review committee will sit soon to decide on the matter.
Earlier, CEC Wangyal welcomed the first IGP Ladakh Khandare on behalf of Hill Council Leh with traditional Khataks and briefed him about the structure and functions of LAHDC, Leh. Wangyal apprised IGP Ladakh in detail about the police related pending issues and demands of Leh district including nonexistence of traffic police wing in Leh district affecting traffic problems in Leh city badly especially in tourist season, increase in road accidents, upgradation of Police Check Posts to Police Stations, opening of new police station and checks posts in the district, early transfer of remaining police personals from UT J&K to UT Ladakh and providing of PSOs to Deputy Chairman and ECs of LAHDC, Leh.
Deputy Chairman Tsering Sandup, EC Agri Stanzin Phuntsog, EC Education Konchok Stanzin, EC Minority Affairs Mumtaz Hussain, MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, SSP, Leh Sargun Shukla, DySP HQ Leh Ishtyaq Ahmed Kacho and Councillors were present on the occasion.
