JAMMU, Mar 16: Indira Gandhi National Open University, Regional Centre Jammu organised one-day meeting of coordinators and programme Incharges of all the learner Study Centres under Jammu Region here today. The coordinators and programme incharges from various learner Study Centres spread across the region including Doda, Kishtwar, Padder, Bhaderwah, Bhalessa, Surankote, Sunderbani, Rajouri, Mahore, Kharta, Katra, Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, Ramban, etc participated in the meeting.
The participants had an interactive session with the Regional Centre functionaries in which several issues related to the functioning of learner Study Centres were discussed and resolved. Besides this, various issues pertaining to Student Support Services were discussed and necessary strategies were framed on-the-spot to improve the quality of support services being provided to the learners from these Centres.
Regional Director, K K Bhat, briefed the gathering about various innovative schemes and initiatives being introduced into the system for the benefit of learners and the prospective learners. He informed that a proposal has been submitted to the New Delhi for establishment of rural libraries in far-flung and remote Centres of the region which will go a long way in ensuring better support services to the learners attached with these Centres due to the reason that most of these rural and tribal localities are cut off from the mainstream of communication and the learners in these areas are deprived of library facilities while pursuing IGNOU programmes
In conformity with the national policy on promoting education among women, the Regional Director expressed his happiness about the go-ahead from Headquarters for the establishment of Study Centres exclusively for Women which will provide an environment of safety, security and participation will be given to students, parents and functionaries. Mr Bhat informed that two proposals from reputed Government Women Colleges in the region have been received and will soon be got notified.
Vikram Singh, Assistant Regional Director, interacted with the Coordinators and discussed various issues pertaining to admissions, examinations and students grievances. He assured that IGNOU will not allow its programmes to deteriorate in terms of quality content and support services.
