IGGDC organises anti-tobacco rally ahead of ‘World No Tobacco Day’

JAMMU, May 30: Indira Gandhi Government Dental College and Hospital (IGGDC) today organised an awareness rally in Jammu to mark World No Tobacco Day, observed annually on May 31.
The rally was held under the theme, “Unmasking the Appeal: Countering Nicotine and Tobacco Addiction,” with the aim of spreading awareness about the harmful health, environmental and economic effects of tobacco use.
The rally started from the college premises after being flagged off by Principal and Dean of the College, Dr Parveen Akhter Lone, and passed through Shakuntala area before returning to the Administrative Block of the institution.
Faculty members, staff and local police personnel participated enthusiastically, carrying placards and banners with anti-tobacco messages and slogans promoting a tobacco-free lifestyle under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
Speaking on the occasion, the college Principal and Dean, Dr Lone highlighted the strong link between tobacco consumption and serious diseases, including oral cancer, lung ailments and other non-communicable diseases.
She urged the participants to adopt a healthy and tobacco-free lifestyle and spread awareness in society about the dangers of tobacco addiction.
The programme concluded with the distribution of refreshments among the participants.
