Srinagar, Mar 1: Expressing hope that statehood will be restored in the “next few months”, National Conference (NC) Chief spokesperson and MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq said today that if it does not happen, there is a Plan B and Plan C.
Speaking with reporters here, Tanvir said that there is a verdict from the Supreme Court, as well as promises made by the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, regarding the restoration of statehood.
“Additionally, there is a resolution of the elected Government on the matter. We will wait for some time, and as Omar sahab has said, if it does not happen, then there is Plan B and Plan C,” he said.
However, he was quick to add that there would be no need to resort to Plan B, expressing confidence that statehood would be restored in the coming months. He added, “Why are we instilling doubt in people’s minds about the restoration of statehood? We should have certainty that it is happening. There is the Supreme Court verdict, and there are the promises of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister.”
Regarding the Centre’s efforts to ensure peace in J&K without involving the Omar-led Government, Tanvir emphasized that the elected Government must be made a stakeholder in the process.
“If people are not made stakeholders, how do you expect to achieve peace? If the elected Government is sidelined, how will peace be ensured?” he asked. Responding to a question regarding the PDP seeking NC’s support for bills like the one proposing a ban on alcohol, Tanvir alleged that the PDP and BJP are aligned and do not want the issues of the people to be addressed in the Assembly.
“They are playing games with each other. PDP and BJP are the same and do not want the people’s work to be done. Mehbooba ji is making noise for the sake of it,” he said.
“We will ensure that all 12 guarantees and 26 promises are fulfilled. We do not need anyone to teach us. We want everything to be done in a proper and timely manner.”
Speaking about the upcoming Budget session of the J&K Assembly, set to commence from March 3, Tanvir said that the opposition has a right to hold the Government accountable but should not disrupt the House under that pretext.
