IEI, others celebrate Engineers’ Day

JAMMU, Sept 15: The Institution of Engineers India (IEI) , Jammu Local Centre celebrated 52nd Engineers’ Day at its Institutional complex, Channi Himmat, here today. It was attended by large numbers of engineers from various departments and organizations.
This day is celebrated all over the country on September 15 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the greatest engineer of India “Bharat Ratna, Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya”.
Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Sanjeev Verma was the chief guest on the occasion.
The proceedings started with garlanding of the bust of Sir M. Visvesvaraya. First of all Engineer, Ravi Chanyal, FIE, Chairman of IEI, Jammu Local Centre presented the welcome address. While describing the activities undertaken by the IEI Jammu Centre, the Chairman highlighted the burning issues of the engineering fraternity viz regularizations and Assured Carrier Progression.
Rich tributes were paid to Sir M. Visvesvaraya by Ajay Sharma, MIE, Executive Engineer (Mech.), PHE Deptt. He highlighted the lifelong achievements, sterling qualities, austerity, integrity, competence and discipline of the greatest icon of engineering profession.
Further, on the occasion, the chief guest honoured Santokh Singh, FIE; Retd Chief Engineer with IEI Award for outstanding services rendered to the engineering profession and to the Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre.
BL Rawal, MIE was awarded with RL Sharma Memorial Gold Medal for presenting the best technical paper, Vinod Kumar, MIE was awarded with Rudra Bhagwati Silver Medal for presenting 2nd best technical paper and IEI Bronze Medal was presented to Ranjeev Sawhney, MIE for presenting 3rd best technical paper during the year 2018- 19.
On the occasion 1st issue of 17th Volume of quarterly News Letter ‘IEI Jammu News’ was also released by the chief guest along with members of Editorial Board Ravi Chanyal, FIE; Kuldip Kumar Badyal, MIE; Anil Verma, MIE; Supinder Jeet Singh, AMIE; Pooja Wazir, AMIE & Vijay Sharma, MIE. The Editorial Board members were also presented with mementoes for the service rendered for timely publication of the News Letter.
Chief guest also honoured SC Thukral, FIE; KR Suri, FIE; PK Nanda, MIE; Sunil Seth, MIE; Sachin Tickoo, MIE and Akash Dusgotra, AMIE for presenting two or more technical papers during 2018 – 2019.
Sanjeev Verma while speaking on the occasion congratulated the engineers on the Engineers Day and praised the engineers for the efforts they put in for providing basic services to the public and for development of the state.
Vijay Sharma, MIE; honorary secretary, IEI Jammu Centre conducted the proceedings and presented Vote of Thanks.
Engineers Day was also celebrated in IECS Polytechnic, Purkhoo Camp, wherein faculty members and students paid their tributes to Sir M. Visvesvaraya. Shiv Dev Singh Jamwal, Vice-Chairman, Jamwal Group of Educational institutions was chief guest on the occasion. Principal of the institute Amit Sharma exhorted the students to become capable and honest professionals and to work for development of our country.
Engineers day was also celebrated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), to pay tribute to the great Engineer, who dedicated his life for the development of the country through his outstanding achievements in construction of dams, irrigation systems, flood protection system, roads, industries, education, and alike.
Oral/poster presentation was made by the students and research scholars of SMVDU on the theme, titled ‘Engineering for Change’. The Coordinator of the event was Dr Balbir Singh, Associate Professor, School of Mechanical Engineering, SMVDU, who gave presentation on the life of Sir M. Visvesvaraya. Prof Easwaramurthy, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, spoke on learning and practicing of ethical and professional values emanated from the life of great engineer. Chief guest, Gurmeet Singh, Plant head, Dabur Group, Jammu, shared his experience and emphasis on true engineering and work for the positive change in society.
