IEI celebrates Telecommunication & Information Society Day

JAMMU, May 17: The Institution of Engineers India (IEI), Jammu local centre celebrated World Telecommunication & Information Society Day today at Institutional Complex, Channi Himmat, Jammu by organizing a seminar on theme “Bridging the standardization gap”.
The seminar was attended by a large number of senior engineers, engineers and officers from telecom and other departments/organizations.
Ashutosh Bajaj, CEO & Business Head, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, Jammu graced the occasion as chief guest. At the outset of the function, Hem Chander Jerath, (former Chairman, IEI, Jammu centre) appraised the audience about the theme.
Four technical papers were presented by S C Thukral (FIE), B L Rawal (MIE), Vinod Kumar (MIE) and Sachin Tickoo (MIE) on the theme. The speakers emphasized that with exponential increase in the number and types of smart devices over the coming years, IoT poses a major challenge for the world in the development of interoperable global standards and for ensuring interoperability and connectivity within a global information infrastructure, ICT standards are urgently required. Further it was highlighted that the access to ICT standards is a critical factor in a countries global economic competitiveness.
Ashutosh Bajaj, while speaking on the occasion, enlightened the audience about the latest developments for bridging the standardization gap in the field of telecommunication and highlighted its benefits for the society.
Vijay Sharma, honorary secretary of the centre conducted the proceedings of the seminar.
