Sir,
Large number of students taking competitive examinations conducted by Indian Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Staff Selection Commission (SSC), etc are facing difficulties in appearing at these examinations in which various authorities have prescribed specific types of Identity Certificates for each of these examinations, alongwith call letter or admit card or hall ticket, which creates piquant situation for the candidates. Many of the candidates are disallowed from entering the hall for want of particular type of Identity proof such as Voter Identity Card or Bank Passbook containing photograph or a College Identity Card or an Aadhar Card or an Identity Card issued by a Gazetted Officer only and the like. The authorities at examination centre insist on the ‘particular type identity proof’, else they turn away the candidates. For example, even in case of Aadhar Card, the one delivered to the residence is only accepted and not the -e-Aadhar Card which can be printed from same data source by a citizen who did not receive Aadhar Card from Unique Identity Authority of India (UIDA) delivered at his house.
The new Government which has done away with the very system of ‘attestation’ by Gazetted officers on copies of valuable documents and substituted with self attestation, must do something similar urgently in respect of ‘proof of identity’ in competitive examinations whereby it may mandate self declared Identity Card containing his or her photograph and signed by him/her valid and confer dignity on the educated youths aspiring to take to competitive examinations without hurdles of above kind. Alternatively, Government may specify all types of Identity Proofs for such examination as valid, any of which may be accepted instead of one by some and the other by another to save the affected youths from disappointment and cursing the situation.
Yours etc…
