JAMMU, Aug 7: Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur today directed the Divisional Commissioners to identify land measuring 16 kanals to construct composite old age homes at R S Pura in Jammu and Samboora in Pampore.
The direction was passed in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Viklang Chattra Trust through its Organizer Satya Pal Saraf seeking better facilities in old age home.
In the compliance report filed as per the previous directions of the Division Bench, the State submitted that land has been identified for construction of composite homes at Samboora and RS Pura. But, the total area of the identified land doesn’t exceed four to six kanals.
Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi pointed out that the area of four or six kanal would be inadequate to cope up with the requirement of inmates and much more area would be necessary. “The area should not be less than 16 kanals”, he further said, adding “in the light of the fact that grant to the extent of 90 percent would be provided by the Union Government for constriction of these homes, the State should not shy away from playing its role in positive manner”, he added.
Upon this, Division Bench directed that Divisional Commissioners Jammu and Kashmir to identify the land measuring about 16 kanals to construct composite home at RS Pura Jammu and Samboora Pampore.
“The needful shall be done within two weeks so that State Government can proceed with the planning of constructing composite homes”, the DB said.
