JAMMU, Oct 19: A joint team of ICMR and AIIMS New Delhi today visited Government Hospital Gandhinagar, here to inspect the services being extended at Palliative Care Centre of the Hospital.
The team comprising Dr Varun and Dr Suraj from ICMR and Dr Brijesh from AIIMS New Delhi was received in the Hospital by Dr Praveen Yograj (Medical Superintendent) and Dr Rohit Lahori (Incharge, Pain and Palliative Care Centre). The team visited the centre in context to the ICMR and AIIMS New Delhi project in which Government Hospital Gandhinagar Jammu has been nominated as the nodal centre for a project hand holding for Palliative Care services in North India.
Accompanied by Dr Praveen Yograj and Dr Rohit Lahori, the team visited Pain and Palliative Care Centre and inspected the OPD and IPD services provided there. The team appreciated the efforts of Government in providing these services at Government Hospital, Gandhinagar. The ICMR project has four phases and has to be completed in three years. The project was started in February 2023.
It is pertinent to mention here that Government Hospital Gandhinagar has been nominated among the top ten hospitals in Northern India for providing these services. Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Department has extended these services in all the districts hospitals under NPPC Program for the patients suffering from the terminal disease.
Government Hospital Gandhinagar under Directorate of Health Services Jammu was the first centre to provide these services. Palliative care is the care for such patients who need to be managed for their physical, psychosocial, financial and spiritual symptoms which also include pain management by opioids and advanced management by interventional procedures.
